Why would one need to do this?

If you don't tick the "enable NERO scout" box then no icon.

Thanks for that DJLizard..searches were taking for ever, having to search all through nero scout..thanks to you its now gone..

Any particular clues you could give us as to why? Errors, etc?

Also note that this post is from December 2005, and may not apply to newer versions of Nero 7. I hated Nero 7 so I am using other products.

u can always right click on tool bar and in options unclick nero search

Awesome. This prompted me to also try to get rid of the My Sharing Folders shortcut (which worked):

regsvr32 /u "C:\Program Files\MSN Messenger\fsshext.[my version number].dll"

Sorry, we won't be able to help you much with Nero issues. I just posted this bit about the Scout because it's a common question.

Since you purchased it, you are entitled to some form of support through Ahead, so I suggest you give them a call.

I recently purchased nero 7 ultra from best buy and I can't get it to install. I can see the nero icon when I look at the disc drive, when I click it I get to the folders but I still can't get it to install. I previously had nero loaded on my computer and a trial version as well, I thought they were gone; could leftovers from those programs be the cause of my problem?

Just create a disable-nero-scout.bat file containing :

regsvr32 /u "%commonprogramfiles%\Ahead\Lib\MediaLibraryNSE.dll" pause

On Vista, run it via right-clic/Run with administrative rights.

FINALLY… I like another poster hated the fact that Scout was in My Computer, but never bothered to search for a solution until now.

PS – this works in Vista also.

I had tried everything but nothing could get rid rid of Nero search on my task bar. Then I went ahead and did the following:

Boot Windows in SaFE mODE.

Log into Administrator

Go into Windows search.

Check "search all drives" and "search hidden folders"

Search for "Nerosearch"

You should get about 7 results.

DELETE THEM ALL!!!!!!

Reboot into Windows normally.

Now Nero search should be gone.

Thanx for the tip.
Also notice you should uncheck the option of integrating the Nero Scout to the Tray in settings and then unregister the dll. Otherwise you wont be able get to the settings (then the obvious solution si to register the dll, change the settings and then unregister).

to stop this 2 files from loading in startup go to …

NMIndexingService.exe
———————–
Cntrol Panel => Administrative Aools => Services => NMIndexingService
and push STOP & Disable.

NMBgMonitor.exe
——————

Run => "regedit" => HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\NMBgMonitor

Right Click => Delete

I've had to write a batch file for this for work as we cannot have Nero scout/search running on the network.

the only thing i cant get it to do is autmatically uncheck the nero search toolbar

If anyone wants the batch file email me @ neroremove@wintermeyer.co.uk

Its fully annotated and easy to see what its actually doing for those who are worried about it being a virus :)

If anyone can advise on automatically removing the nero search input button in the toolbar i would appriciate it!
