I don't know why, but I'm getting flooded with this question all of the sudden. Is someone spreading unfounded rumors high up in the chain? I'm tired of being the bad guy for letting them use my free product. Guess what? If I continue to get harassed, I'm going to request that it be removed from the MRI. I don't need to be attacked for something that didn't even happen.
Anyway, Geek Squad/Best Buy did not pay me a fee to use Dial-a-fix.
Look on my wiki:
Dial-a-fix is 100% freeware to use and redistribute, as long as the file is unmodified [...md5 stuff...] and as long as no money is being charged for access to the file. [...misc stuff...] It is completely free for personal or corporate use, however, under no circumstances will I take any responsibility for your use or inability to use Dial-a-fix, and its results (or lack thereof).
Dial-a-fix will always be free to use.
Period.
It's free, even if you are Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, Satan, Jesus, Buddha, Homer Simpson, or Geek Squad.

Maybe you should set up a small charge for corporate use. There are lots of programs that are free for home use and not for corporate.
Imagine if you made $15 or more for every best buy store that used it.
I think its awesome that you release it for free but you gotta eat too. :P
Dial-a-fix will always be free. Forever.
If I make some OTHER program, then sure, I might sell or charge fees for it, but I'm not going to break my promise/license regarding Dial-a-fix.
Yeah, stick to your guns.
It's nice to see someone who doesn't break at the first sign of making a dollar. Not to mention trying to go through all of the legalities of turning a once free program semi-free..
That's not to say you shouldn't begin on your paid app..
you should.
I just ask that the "make a donation section" become more prominent.
So what's the back story on this?
It'll be a small graphic and a text link in the next version, I think.
I've been getting several emails, a few PMs (from Something Awful), and then there's that troll from my "This is me, strangling Geek Squad" post.
I donated but dude it took a while to navigate to a donate section. Please put it on your front page.
And thanks for Dial-A-Fix
Oh god thanks for reminding me - after I changed the site theme I forgot to put the PayPal button back up. Also, you can access the donations page through Dial-a-fix itself (there's a hyperlink on the main dialog).
Thank you very much for your generous donation - it helps me a great deal in these hard times.
